About Us
History:
In the fall of 1987, the Lee County Board of Supervisors issued a proclamation calling for a history of Lee County to be published in celebration of its bicentennial. Over the following months and years, a group of interested citizens came together to plan and implement this project, resulting in the publication of Bicentennial History of Lee County, Virginia 1792-1992.
On May 2, 1991, the Lee County Historical and Genealogical Society was established, evolving from the Bicentennial Book Committee. The charter for the Society was issued by the State of Virginia in July 1991, at which point it became the parent organization of the Book Committee and took on the responsibility of safeguarding the county's historical records.
