Thanks to the generous support of the Lee County Community Foundation, the Historical Society has embarked on a vital initiative to preserve and organize our treasured collections. This project involves carefully storing fragile documents, books, photographs, textiles, and garments in archival-grade, acid-free storage containers. Each container is meticulously labeled with a unique catalog number to ensure easy identification and access.
Our goal is to catalog every item currently on display and housed in our file cabinets, making our resources more accessible for researchers and history enthusiasts. As part of this effort, we are also digitizing documents to ensure their long-term preservation and expand accessibility.
Additionally, we are working to make our video collection—spanning ten years of recorded speaker presentations—available in a user-friendly format for public viewing. This rich archive offers unique insights into our local history and heritage, and we are excited to share it with you.
Stay tuned for updates as we continue this important work to preserve and share Lee County’s history.
